Star Trek (anything, TV, movies) almost always uses models for their ships.
Models still give the most realistic look to date.
As far as morphing, lasers, etc. It's anyone's guess.
I believe I remember SGI credited in the credits, although I could be
mixing it up with another movie I saw recently.
